Satisfactory Academic Progress
Institution receiving Federal funds (Title IV) to have an academic progress policy that is used to determine eligibility for and continued receipt of Federal funds. Title IV Federal funds affected by this policy include the Federal College Work Study Program, Federal PLUS Loans, SEOG, PELL and Federal Stafford Loans. SFT also uses this standard to renew need based aid.
Faculty members evaluate student progress up to four times yearly or twice a semester. The frequency of evaluations means students are constantly apprised of their progress. Failure to make satisfactory progress or failure to conform to the standards and practices expected of SFT students can result in dismissal from the program.
A first-year student may make satisfactory academic progress and not be selected to continue in the second year of the program. Second-year students who fail to maintain satisfactory progress are warned and may be dismissed.
Students not meeting SAP will be granted one year of financial aid probation. After that year the student must achieve the required academic standard or further aid will be denied. School merit aid requires a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Students who do not meet this requirement at the end of the academic year, will lose their scholarship prior to the start of the new academic year.
Failure to complete the minimum number of credit hours per academic year or maintain the minimum GPA will result in the cancellation of all Title IV and institutional funds. Students whose aid is canceled are not eligible for additional financial aid until the next academic year provided that all of the requirements are met. (Note: merit awards have a different standard.)
Withdrawal: Students who totally withdraw and receive aid may owe the school money if federal funds must be returned. Before withdrawing from the program, students should contact the Financial Aid Office to determine its impact.
